Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, born on October 10, 1985, in Lucknow, is an Indian Air Force test pilot with over 2,000 flight hours. Selected in 2019 for ISRO's Gaganyaan mission, he trained at Russia's Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center. In 2024, he was chosen to pilot Axiom Mission 4 to the International Space Station, becoming the first Indian astronaut to do so.

Early Life and Background

Shubhanshu Shukla was born on October 10, 1985, in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. He comes from a simple and respected family. His father, Shambhu Dayal Shukl, was a government officer, and his mother, Asha Shukla, is a homemaker. From a young age, he was inspired by soldiers and dreamt of doing something great for the country.

Education and Academic Excellence

He studied at City Montessori School (CMS), Aliganj Branch in Lucknow. After school, he cleared the tough UPSC exam and joined the National Defence Academy (NDA). He later completed his training at the Indian Air Force Academy and also earned a master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from IISc Bangalore.

Indian Air Force Career

Shubhanshu was commissioned into the Indian Air Force (IAF) in 2006. He became a fighter pilot and flew different types of aircraft. With over 2,000 hours of flying experience, he has served the nation with courage and skill. His dedication and discipline made him a top officer in the Air Force.
